Report Shows the U.S. is Shipping Plastic Waste to Undeveloped Countries

An environmental nightmare is in the works as a new study done by the Guardian Newspaper shows the U.S. is shipping hundreds of thousands of tons of plastic waste to poor countries.

Countries like Bangladesh, Laos, Ethiopia and Senegal are being targeted because they have limited environmental regulations and labor in those countries is cheap.

Last year alone, according to the report, the U.S. sent the equivalent of 68-thousand shipping containers of American plastic to developing countries.

Susan Collins is the President of the Container Recycling Institute, a research group. She spoke with KCBS Radio News anchor Rebecca Corral.
