The bicyclist who was hit and killed by a SMART train in Rohnert Park has been identified as Gary Raymond Danning of Petaluma.

Sonoma County Sheriff's officials say Danning was riding on the sidewalk of Golf Course Drive toward Commerce Boulevard when he was struck last Friday morning.

A woman from La Grange was hit and killed by a SMART train at that same location the day before Danning's death, when she ducked under a crossing arm and ran across the tracks.

In the wake of these latest deaths, the head of the North Bay's SMART commuter rail line says they may need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars - maybe even Millions - to make pedestrian and bicycle crossings safer.

KCBS Radio's Jeffrey Schaub has that part of the story.
