Mexican Avocado Industry in the Throes of a Cartel War

The multi-billion dollar avocado industry in Mexico is now in the middle of a bloody cartel war.

In pursuit of land for what locals call "green gold", cartels have been seizing farms and clearing protected woodlands to plant their groves.

LA Times Foreign Correspondent Kate Linthicum is based in Mexico City and has written  about this for the paper. KCBS Radio news anchor Rebecca Corral spoke with her about the issue.
