While child marriage sounds like something that only happens in faraway places, new data reported by the Associated Press found that thousands of girls have been brought to the US and through the immigration system in recent years.

The report uncovered more than 5,000 cases of adults bringing minors into the country to be married, and 3,000 cases of the reverse.

Lyric Thompson is the Director of Policy and Advocacy at the International Center for Research on Women. She tells KCBS Radio anchor Scott Lettieri this is happening legally, and it's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to child marriage in the US.
