Another Inmate Has Died Due to Covid-19

State prison officials say another inmate has died of Covid-19. This morning's announcement concerned a prisoner from the California Institution for Men in Chino--at least the 16th Covid-19 death connected with that facility.

The head of medical services for the state's prison system is no longer in charge.

He was removed yesterday, following the mistaken transfer of virus infected inmates from Chino to San Quentin that set off a massive Covid-19 outbreak. As of today, more than 1,500 San Quentin inmates and staff have been infected and six inmates are dead.

As KCBS Radio reporter Holly Quan tells us, a federal judge says the state is taking too long to release medically vulnerable prisoners.
