Lengthy Careers For Many All-News "Rookies"

The all-news format may have been new to KCBS Radio in 1968, but the station already had a long history of emphasizing news coverage.

Many of the "launch team" members had been broadcasting on KCBS Radio since before it was even known by those call letters.  The rich history of the station we now call KCBS Radio includes the era under the call letters KQW. All four of the broadcasters in the photo atop this story joined the station in the 1940's.  The call letters changed when CBS bought the station in 1949.

The photo was taken at an "employee service recognition" event in 1979. From left to right, we see Ken Ackerman, Don Mozley, Ray Barnett (General Manager of KCBS Radio in the 1970's and 1980's), Deane Stewart, and Clancy Cassell.
