Vallejo Vegetation Fire Shuts Down I-780

June 29, 2018 - 1:48 pm

VALLEJO (KCBS Radio) - Firefighters from Vallejo and Benicia responded to an eight-acre, three-alarm vegetation fire on Interstate Highway 780 Thursday evening.

The fire was reported around 6:45 p.m. in the area of eastbound Highway 780 between Glen Cove Road and Columbus Parkway.

The fire burned grass and thick brush between Highway 780 and Benicia State Park and crossed Highway 780. It threatened two homes and three businesses and shut both directions of Highway 780 and Columbus Parkway because of zero visibility and crews working on the roadway, the Benicia Fire Department said.

The fire was under control by 8:40 p.m., and crews remained on the scene for hours to clean up and ensure there were no new fires.

No structures were damaged and there were no injuries.

Firefighters from Fairfield, Contra Costa County, Suisun City, Cal Fire and Travis Air Force Base provided mutual aid.

The cause is under investigation.
