Straight Pride March Planned For Modesto

July 23, 2019 - 3:27 pm

Plans are underway for a "straight pride" march to be held in Modesto.

An activist who is critical of LGBTQ people has applied for a permit to hold the march in a city park. Tha National Straight Pride Coalition has circulated a flyer saying the event will take place August 24.

"Essentially, it boils down to two religious views of the world," organizer Don Grundman told CBS Sacramento. "One is Christianity, which is represented by heterosexuality, a culture of life. Its opponent is the LGBT movement, which is represented by an opposing religion and an opposing view of life."

Modesto Councilwoman Kristi Ah You said that besides being intolerant of LGBTQ people, the social media promotions for the event exhibit racial overtones.

"When you go to the page, it talks about whiteness, It talks about western civilization. It talks about being Caucasian," she said.

Modesto's city council has not yet decided whether to issue the permit.
