Traffic Backed Up On Bay Bridge After Crash Involving CHP Officer

August 14, 2019 - 8:48 am

A California Highway Patrol officer on a motorcycle was injured in a collision with a car near the Bay Bridge toll plaza on Wednesday morning.

The officer was taken to the hospital with what were described as minor injuries.

But the crash around 7:30 a.m. resulted in a blockage to the left lane for carpool drivers on westbound I-80 and officials issued a severe traffic alert.

The carpool lane reopened around 8:45 a.m. but traffic was backed up through the MacArthur maze nearly to the interchange with Highway 24. Other approaches to the bridge were also experiencing signficant delays.
