May 18, 2018 - 2:38 pm

SANTA CRUZ (KCBS Radio) - A Santa Cruz County sheriff's deputy and a female suspect are both recovering following an officer involved shooting Friday morning.

Sheriff's officials say two officers came across a car reported stolen around 3:30am, at the end of the Ocean Street Extension near Paradise Park. The officers detained a man and a woman, handcuffed them and put them into two separate patrol cars.

Officials say while the deputies were talking to the man, the woman got out of her handcuffs, jumped into the driver's seat and drove at an officer striking him. The second deputy fired at the woman, hitting her three times.

She was taken by helicopter to a hospital...where she underwent surgery. The officer was also taken to the hospital for his injuries...and was treated and released.

Officials say the woman will be booked for attempted murder of an officer.
