SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS Radio) - San Francisco Mayoral Candidate Mark Leno has conceded the race Wednesday afternoon. This comes a day after London Breed widened her lead to over 1,861 votes with more to be counted.

In a Wednesday afternoon news conference, Leno made his announcemenmt.

"I called Supervisor London Breed this morning to congratulate her on her victory and to wish her every success both personally and professionally in her new job as mayor of San Francisco," Leno said. "She was very gracious."

Leno led the counting on election night...thanks in large part to ranked choice voting which had him picking up a large number of Supervisor Jane Kim's votes.

But, the President of the Board of Supervisors continued to pull in a large percentage of 1st choice votes...propelling her to the lead. Elections officials added they still have more than 17,000 ballots to process.

When Breed's official announcement as mayor of San Francisco comes to be, she will serve the rest of the late San Francsico Mayor Ed Lee's term which ends in 2020.

Lee died from a heart attack on December 12, 2017.
