SAN FRANCISCO — A United Express pilot flying from San Francisco to Burbank stunned passengers on Saturday when he said that the flight would be delayed while he returned home to get his iPad.

Traveler Sean Cafferkey of Burlingame.said the pilot announced over the intercom that he needed 30 minutes to leave the airport and retrieve his tablet, which contained charts and important information essential to the flight.

The pilot said that there were no alternate devices at the airport, according to Cafferkey.

"You were waiting for the punch line, but there was none. It was just, he was gone," said Cafferkey.

Although the situation was odd, Cafferkey said he appreciated the pilot's forthright explanation.

"I prefer the candor," he said. "It made it kind of funny or else it would be my flight was delayed because of something, those liars."

Another flyer tweeted about the pilot's unexpected detour.

SkyWest, which operated the flight for United Express, declined to answer KCBS Radio's inquiries.
