SAN JOSE — Mineta San Jose International Airport is adding six more gates. They are scheduled to be revealed at a grand opening next month.

The new gates, 31 through 36 will be found at the south end of Terminal B, and will initially be used by Southwest Airlines.

"Southwest is our largest carrier here at San Jose airport," said airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes. "As we shift Southwest south, to the 14 gates of the south, that means other airlines, including Alaska and Delta will all be able to relocate into additional gate space to meet their growth needs too."

Passengers hope the extra space will speed up departures and arrivals.

"Yeah, more gates will be better because it will mean less waiting on the tarmac," said one passenger.

The $58-million expansion will open to the public on June 13.
