Police in Salt Lake City are searching for missing University of Utah student MacKenzie Lueck, who disappeared after taking a Lyft ride from the airport.

Lueck flew to Salt Lake City last week from Southern California where she'd attended her grandmother's funeral. According to Salt Lake City police, the 23-year-old ordered a Lyft to take her from the airport to an address in North Salt Lake at about 1:00 a.m. on June 17. Police said Lueck was last seen at that North Salt Lake address, which is not her home and not a residence at all.

Lueck's friend Juliana Cauley told CBS This Morning that it is very unusual and concerning that no one has heard from her.

"It's not like her to go off the grid," Cauley said. "And if she did, then she would tell me."

Salt Lake City police said the department had not uncovered any information that would lead officers to believe that Lueck had been harmed or was in danger, according to a press release. The department has been conducting a missing persons investigation and has been in contact with both Lyft and the driver who picked up Lueck.

"We recognize how scary this must be for those who know and love Ms. Lueck," Lyft said in a statement sent to KCBS Radio. "The safety of our community is fundamental to Lyft and we are actively assisting law enforcement with their investigation."

The company also told KCBS Radio that the driver continued to pick up and drop off other passengers immediately after dropping off Lueck.
