SAN JOSE — An unsuspecting passenger at Mineta San Jose International Airport was selected at the hub's record-breaking 14.3 millionth traveler of the year and showered with goodies on Wednesday.

The honor went to Sergio Aguilera, who was traveling with his family from Seattle. He received free airport parking, a travel sound system and other gifts for his good luck.

"This is a surprise for us," he said while thanking officials.

The Silicon Valley airport has surpassed its previous record for number of flyers, which was set before 9/11, and overtaken Oakland International Airport as the second most popular airport in the Bay Area.

"It's been a long struggle back and we're now reaching a new record for us. We wanted to celebrate that," said Director of Aviation John Aitken."It is big for us. To be the number two in the Bay Area. I think gives us a little prestige."

The airport is looking to attract more domestic and international airlines to schedule flights in and out of San Jose.
