Major Stories: 9/11

May 22, 2018 - 12:30 am

KCBS Radio coverage of the 9/11 attacks began early. Morning anchor Stan Bunger was in the newsroom, preparing to begin his day, when he glanced up at a TV monitor. What he saw shook him and launched a day of non-stop coverage of the terrorist attacks that stunned the world.

KCBS Radio reporters fanned out across the Bay Area while the on-air coverage wove together live feeds from a variety of sources, including our all-news sister station WCBS Radio in New York. John Madden even played a memorable role, describing his walk through an eerily quiet Midtown Manhattan (Madden was in New York to broadcast a "Monday Night Football" game).

Our audio file includes a segment of an afternoon hour. You'll hear President George W. Bush's speech to the nation, as well as interviews with KCBS Political Analyst Marc Sandalow and San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. Mike Pulsipher and Patty Reising are the anchors.
