SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) - "Cook free or die" were his words to live by. Cook, Film buff, Global citizen, Raconteur, Rebel chef, Rock star, TV Host, Thrill seeker, Traveler and Writer.

The worst news to wake up to. "Anthony Bourdain Dead at 61" read the CNN news banner.

Tony lived large, celebrated the best of life but was NOT comfortable with his fame. He shone a light on the underdogs & the underbelly of every place he visited . He broke the rules, rewrote the TV host manual. He wrote his own scripts, debuted on Travel Channel but found his voice on CNN on “Parts Unknown”. He worked tirelessly for better wages for cooks & the undocumented.

He was the anti-chef who inspired so so many. A global citizen who celebrated ALL. A brilliant mind who had a dark side too - like his heroes Hunter S Thompson & IGGY POP.   One of his favorite songs was “LUST FOR LIFE”!

Another taken too young, too soon. And one of the really, really, good guys.

I want to wrap up with two quotes from Tony Bourdain:

"Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life - and travel - leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks - on your body or on your heart - are beautiful. Often, though, they hurt."

This one is my favorite and befitting the global citizen and celebrator of living the good life. "Your body is not a temple it’s an amusement park - enjoy the ride,"

"Sleep with the angels Tony" See you on the other side.

Cheers - a beer or Negroni in hand for you tonight!
