Would -be-Jedis are anxiously awaiting the opening of the new Star Wars-themed land in Disneyland.

The good news is that the latest expansion project is due to open earlier than anticipated. KCBS Radio's Kim Wonderley has a preview in this week's road report.

The new section of the Anaheim theme park will be called Star Wars Galaxy's Edge and it's due to open on May 31.

Tourists heading to Disney World in Orlando will get the same expansion, but nto until late August.

The Star Wars galazy will take up 14 acres behind Frontierland. It's set in the "Black Spire Outpost" and will feature two major attractions, although only one will be ready for opening day. It's called Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run where you will be a member of the flight crew negotiating and defending your way through space.

The more elaborate ride is Star Wars: the Rise of the Resistance. It's said to employ cutting edge technology never before seen as you join in an epic battle against the First Order. Disney promises this ride will "blur the lines between fantasy and reality." The ride is due to open later this year, but not firm date has been announced.

Galaxy's Edge is an immersive experience that includes music composed especially for the park by John Williams, the composer's whose scores are an intrinsic part of the Star Wars films.

Food and drink is available at a variety of places including Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo.

Here's the catch though; You need to make a reservation to visit the new Star Wars land if you're going between May 31 and June 23. Admission to that area is included with your entrance to Disneyland, but space in Galaxy's Edge will be limited. Preference is given to guests staying at any of the Disneyland Resort Hotels.

Reservations are not required for trips booked after June 24.
