Flooding Disrupts San Jose Commute

SAN JOSE (KCBS Radio) -- The Thursday morning commute was disrupted in San Jose by flooding. Water apparently flowing from a system designed to manage groundwater near the banks of the Guadalupe River flowed across lanes at the Interstate 280/Highway 87 interchange.

The flooding forced the closure of lanes of southbound Interstate 280 and prevented motorists using southobound 280 from accessing Highway 87.

Similar flooding last week was blamed on the failure of a circuit breaker in a pumping system near the Guadalupe River, which flows past downtown San Jose on its way to San Francisco Bay.

By 8:15am, power had been restored to the pumps and the water had subsided enough to allow for the re-opening of all affected lanes.
