SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS Radio) - President Trump's deployment of a bit of Hollywood fluffery at his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is being hailed by at least one veteran political ad-maker as a "pretty creative and clever move."

Mark McKinnon, who managed media operations for President George W. Bush's campaigns, told KCBS Radio morning anchors Stan Bunger and Susan Leigh Taylor that he was surprised at first when he heard of the "trailer". But upon reflection, McKinnon said he realized the piece was a perfect way to capture Kim's attention.

"Generally speaking," McKinnon said, "it's schlocky, it's over the top, it's ridiculous, it's simplistic, it's propagandistic, and therefore perfect for the dictator of North Korea."

McKinnon is the co-creator of the Showtime series "The Circus: Inside the Greatest Poltical Show on Earth."
