PILLAR POINT (KCBS Radio) -- Bay Area salmon fishermen are celebrating as angler after angler reports good luck.

"It's the best salmon season we've had in years," said one San Jose angler as he boarded a party boat at San Mateo County's PIllar Point Harbor.

Deckhands working on the boats report virtually every fisherman has been catching the limit of two chinook salmon in recent days.

Deck boss Lee Gualtieri of Riptide Sportfishing told KCBS Radio reporter Tim Ryan, "Right out front of the harbor, there's fish. Guys are catching fish everywhere."

Gualtieri and others credit ideal weather conditions and conservation efforts for the bounty. They also point out the economic bonus for people willing to get up early and head out to fish: an angler who shells out $99 for a spot on a sportfishing boat can come home with two hefty salmon.

Considering the price of commercially-caught salmon, it's a bargain.
