The search resumed Monday morning for the wreckage of a small plane that crashed into the San Joaquin River north of Antioch on Sunday.

Contra Costa County Sheriff's officials said they're using sonar to try to locate the plane, which is believed to be underwater.

The tail of a Piper Cherokee single-engine plane was found in the water as well as a backpack and flight charts that were floating.

It's believed that the pilot, whose name has not been released, was the sole person aboard.

The aircraft had been rented from Sterling Aviation at Buchanan Field in Concord.
