SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS Radio) -- Huge waves rolling in from the Pacific Ocean prompted warnings from weather forecasters. The National Weather Service posted a High Surf Warning, in effect until 5 pm Friday.

The weather service predicted breakers 25 to 35 feet high, rolling in at intervals of 17 to 20 seconds. Some break points could see waves reaching 45 feet. The breakers are the result of  a very large long period swell on the Pacific Ocean.

A warning from the National Weather Service  said, "Large breaking waves along the coast will lead to increased wave run-up on beaches with waves topping and washing over large rocks and jetties. They can easily move large logs and other beach debris and cause localized beach erosion."

Forecasters advised people to stay away from the shoreline--especially rocks, jetties, and beaches.
