DANVILLE (KCBS Radio) -- The driver of a silver Mercedes sedan was killed Monday morning in a crash on northbound Interstate 680 in Danville. A tree that fell onto the freeway appeared to have led to the crash.

The crumpled car came to a rest on the embankment bordering the freeway. The Contra Costa County Coroner's office identified the driver Lyudmila Beyzer, 58, of Danville.

Beyzer was an internal medicine specialist who was affiliated with John Muir Medical Center, among other hospitals. “We are deeply saddened to hear about the sudden and tragic passing of Dr. Lyudmila Beyzer,”John Muir Medical Center said in a statement. “She was a member of the John Muir Health Physician Network for 15 years and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, patients, colleagues and staff at this very difficult time.”

An aerial view of the crash scene indicated the tree that fell was dead, with no signs of greenery apparent. At least one more tree standing in the same area had a similar appearance.
