The remains of a well-known former talk show host in San Francisco have been discovered in Kentucky.

Ray Taliaferro, 79, who hosted an overnight program on radio station KGO, had been missing since November 10.

His son said that his body was found in a wooded area of Paducah about a mile from a pizzeria where he was last seen.

"The family appreciates the support and help we received in our search for Ray. This is a devastating ending to our search for him over these past weeks," his family said in a statement. "The family is in the process of working with the police to learn the matters surrounding his death. At this time, we are processing this turn of events and ask for privacy as we work through our loss."

KGO broadcast Taliaferro's show from 1986 to 2011.

A former head of San Francisco's NAACP chapter, Taliaferro was also credited with being the first black talk-show host in a major market.

Taliaferro had been in Kentucky with his wife visiting property that she had inherited.

While searching for him, police there had said Taliaferro may be disoriented and displaying signs of dementia.
