SUNNYVALE — Authorities in Sunnyvale continued Wednesday to investigate an incident that saw a car plow into a number of people at a busy intersection, injuring eight.

The FBI is said to be assisting in the review.

The Tuesday evening incident occurred at the intersection of El Camino Real and Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road around 6:40 p.m..  Witnesses said the driver of the black Toyota Corolla never slowed as he approached a crosswalk and street corner full of pedestrians.

"There's no evidence that he tried to avoid them," said Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Captain Jim Choi.

The car stopped when it crashed into a tree. The driver was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities have released no information about him other than to say he did not appear to be injured.

The victims, whose conditions are unknown, included a 13-year-old girl.
