UPDATE: The Santa Rosa Fire Department says that the gas leak has been secured and residents will soon be able to return to their homes.

The original story is below.

At least 16 homes have been evacuated on the 700 block of Tupper Street in Santa Rosa after a gas meter was struck Thursday morning, according to the city's fire department.

PG&E is currently working to secure the leak. No injuries have been reported.

The evacuation comes during a busy 48 hours for the utility and emergency services, after a powerful storm killed 5 people Wednesday evening and left thousands in the Bay Area without power.
