The Oakland man arrested in connection with the vicious beating and attempted robbery that was caught on video was a temporary employee at GLIDE Church in San Francisco.

Church officials said in a statement that Melton Kelly was employed as a temporary 90-day worker with GLIDE.

"We at GLIDE abhor violence and make it clear to our staff, whether permanent or temporary, that violence is totally unacceptable," the statement said. "Our thoughts and our loving prayers are with the victim and his family."

The brutal attack happened Friday night at the corner of Cyril Magnin and Eddy streets in the city's Tenderloin District.

San Francisco police say 25-year-old Kelly was captured on video kicking and punching another man.

Officers arrested him Sunday morning and took him into custody on several charges, including attempted murder, robbery, mayhem and assault.

Police say the victim was nearly killed in the attack and was taken to the hospital where he's still recovering.
