A pedestrian was struck and killed on southbound Highway 101 near the juncture with I-880, leading to the freeway's closure for hours and disrupting traffic in San Jose and across the South Bay on Tuesday.

The deadly collision occurred around 10:30 a.m. Investigators and other crews kept the southbound lanes shut until 1:30 p.m.
