SAN FRANCISCO - The Salesforce Transbay Transit Center will reopen on July 1.

The Transbay Joint Powers Authority, which operates the terminal, announced the reopening Tuesday, one day after an independent panel of experts and engineers concluded it was safe to reopen.

The $2.2 billion four-story transit center and park opened last August but closed just weeks later after workers discovered two steel girders on the third-level bus deck were cracked. It has remained closed ever since and repair work wrapped up in May.

San Francisco Municipal Railway and Golden Gate Transit will now resume bus service from the street-level bus plaza in early July, according to the TJPA. Alameda-Contra Costa Transit, Greyhound and WestCAT Lynx will also resume bus service later this summer.

The 5.4-acre rooftop Salesforce Park, the Grand Hall, food trucks and public art installations will also open at the site July 1.
