SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS Radio) - The Trump Administration is proposing changes to Title X, which funds family planning, STD testing and other health services.  KCBS Radio's Jenna Lane reports, that is raising hackles in Northern California.

For Gilda Gonzales, the CEO of Planned Parenthood in California's northernmost counties, it is nothing short of an attack. Even though Title X money, which dates back to the 70's, has never been allowed to fund abortions.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is now proposing to require that abortion services be physically and financially separate from Title X-funded health care. That could hurt family planning clinics.

"This is the dark and dangerous agenda of this administration which is attack on women and taking away women's basic rights." Gonzales said.

With close to a million Title X dollars per year, her organization serves about 90,000 people, 10% percent of them in San Francisco, where supervisors including Malia Cohen are calling on citizens to submit comments on the proposed change in the Federal Register.

"Ensuring that San Francisco is on the record standing up," Cohen said. "Standing up and fighting for our commitment to protect and maintain individual's rights. An individual's choice to receive access to critical women's health care services."

The public comment period closes at the end of July.
