Hotel Workers Clean Up San Francisco Spots Favored By Tourists

June 12, 2019 - 12:42 pm

About 700 hotel workers put on rubber gloves and pitched in to beautify San Francisco on Wednesday as summer tourist season gets underway.

They picked up garbage, pulled weeds, planted trees and painted in some popular areas.

"We want tourists to continue to love to come to San Francisco and always continue to come to San Francisco because it's such a beautiful city," said Tania Guardado who works for the Marriott Marquis and was scraping old signs and posters from light poles.

Yet even after a morning where trash was picked up and the pavement hosed down, there were still discarded syringes in Embarcadero Plaza, one of the city's central and grand public spaces.

Tourists support 82,000 jobs in the city and spent $10 billion last year.
