Evacuation Order Lifted In Sonoma County As Crews Battle 3 Alarm Fire

June 05, 2018 - 2:41 pm

Crews are battling a 3 alarm fire at an industrial site in Schellville in Sonoma County.

The fire is burning at the Sonoma Pacific Company on Fremont Drive, a factory that makes wooden pallets.

An evacuation order has now been lifted after officials ordered residents within a half mile radius to leave the area Tuesday afternoon. Misty Harris with the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department tells KCBS Radio the evacuations were ordered as a precaution, over concerns about smoke and potential toxins.

Several fire, law enforcement and emergency agencies are responding to battle the fire, aid in evacuations and control traffic in the area.

Harris also says this is the second time that there has been a fire at the factory in recent years. There was a previous fire at the factory in December of 2013.

There is no word yet on what may have caused the fire and no reported injuries.
