A bicyclist was killed while riding a rented Ford electric bike in San Francisco on Friday morning.

The fatal crash with a white truck happened at about 8:20 a.m. near the Sixth and Howard streets intersection in the South of Market neighborhood.

It's unclear how the collision occurred, according to San Francisco Police Officer Robert Rueca. But it seems that the woman was dragged underneath the truck.

The crash occurred a day after Mayor London Breed ordered city agencies to accelerate projects aimed at increasing street safety

Witnesses told KCBS Radio that the driver and cyclist appeared to be traveling in the same direction.

The truck driver remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.

"We believe we have all parties involved in the collision," Rueca told KCBS Raadio. "One happened to be a vehicle. Unfortunately in this incident, the bicyclist was determined deceased at the scene, so we're now conducting an investigation with a fatality involved."

The entire intersection of Sixth and Howard was closed off for the police investigation, and drivers, cyclists and pedestrians were asked to avoid the area.
