Chevron To Pay For Refinery Violations In Richmond

November 07, 2018 - 12:20 pm

Chevron will pay a $250,000 fine for dozens of violations at its Richmond refinery, officials announced on Tuesday.

The violations included releases of excessive amounts of nitrogen oxides, failing to monitor fuel flow and creating a public nuisance during an unplanned shutdown at the plant, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's announcement

The agreement covers 51 violations that occurred largely in 2015 and 2016, the statement said.

This settlement comes weeks after the oil giant agreed to a $163-million settlement with the Department of Justice for environmental problems at its plants. A 2012 fire in Richmond that forced 14,000 residents to be evacuated was one of the incidents covered by the deal with the DOJ.
