OAKLAND — Alysa Liu, who became the youngest person to win the U.S. Figure Skating Championship, returned to the Oakland ice rink where she first learned to skate.

Alysa, 13, from Richmond, glided around the Oakland Ice Center on Thursday, displaying some of the grace and athleticism that led to her victory last week.

"It's pretty cool. It's a little overwhelming, but I'm really honored," said Alysa.

She successfully pulled off an unprecedented two triple axle jumps during her performance at the competition.

Her father Arthur Liu said his daughter was a natural from when she first started skating eight years ago.

"She was fast. She barely [fell> at all," said the proud father.

One of Alysa's favorite moments since her crowing achievement was meeting figure skating legend Tara Lipinski, the previous youngest skating champ.

"She told me that she was really happy and proud of me and that records were meant to be broken," said Alysa.
