California Sues White House Over Plans To Limit Green Cards

August 16, 2019 - 7:04 pm

California’s governor and attorney general announced that they will sue to block the Trump administration’s new rule restricting green cards for many legal immigrants who are found to rely on some forms of government assistance.

Attorney General Xavier Becerra called Trump administration officialsc "vicious and vile" for crafting the new version of the so-called “Public Charge Rule."

He said California will not let them get away with a change he labeled as illegal and unconstitutional.

“They don’t like immigrants,” said Becerra. “They don’t like them if they are documented or undocumented.”

Aciting Director of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ken Cuccinelli defended the rule while speaking to news outlets on Tuesday.

Cuccinelli, a descendant of Italian immigrants, said the inscription on the Statue of Liberty was meant to welcome Europeans who can stand on their own two feet, not a global population that drains U.S. resources.

Governor Gavin Newsom said that it is clear President Trump just doesn’t like brown people.

He said he was stunned that this battle emerged in a week where California also announced it would fight plans to change the Endangered Species Act

“I never thought, however, I would start my week defending the bald eagle and end my week defending the Statue of Liberty.,"said Newsom. "What an incredible week in America."
