Once again, it's time for KCBS Radio traffic reporter Bob Pryor's guide to weekend traffic and events.

The real story this weekend is the problematic air quality penetrating the Bay Area, which has put the kibosh on a couple of the annual Big Game between Stanford and Cal, and a  couple of scheduled races. Read on for our ‘round-the-Bay roundup of major happenings and a couple of noteworthy non-happenings.

Sun, Nov 18 from 7am-11am: UPDATE: Levi’s Stadium: Forty-Niners’ Golden Heart Run has been canceled.

Fri, Nov 16 thru Sun, Nov 18 and continuing through Jan 27: San Jose: Kristi Yamaguchi Downtown Ice opens for the season. The South Bay’s largest seasonal outdoor ice skating rink is located in the Circle of Palms (120 S Market St at Fairmont Plaza).

  • Pro tip: This is in the heart of Downtown so even though Christmas in the Park hasn’t started yet, taking public transit is the smart play. VTA bus or light rail will get you there, or you can hop off CalTrain at Diridon Station and grab a quick DASH (Downtown Area Shuttle) to Fairmont Plaza.
  • Areas & roadways affected: There’ll likely be some extra cars on the roadways and in garages in the Downtown area, because the rink attracts 50,000 skaters per season.

Sat, Nov 17 at time 4:30pm: The annual Big Game between Cal and Stanford's football teams has been postponed until December 1 due to unhealthy air.

Sun, Nov 18 at 7:30am: Berkeley: Sunday’s  Biofreeze Berkeley Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and 1K races have all been CANCELED due to hazardous air quality.

Sat, Nov 17 from 3pm-9pm: Castro Valley’s 7th Annual ‘Meet in the Street’ event has been CANCELED due to unhealthy air quality.

Sat, Nov 17 and Sun, Nov 18 (10am-7pm) and on weekends through Sun, Dec 23: Daly City: The Cow Palace hosts the Great Dickens Christmas Fair. The Exhibition Halls are turned into Victorian London, with hundreds of costumed players performing and interacting with patrons in theatrically-lit music halls, pubs, dance floors, and Christmas shops.

  • Pro tip: Catch a free courtesy shuttle from the Glen Park muni and BART station to the Cow Palace. Shuttles run from 9am to 8pm each day of the fair.
  • Areas & roadways affected: In northernmost Daly City: Likely extra traffic on Geneva Avenue west of Bayshore Blvd.

Fri, Nov 16 and Sat, Nov 17 from 11pm-8am: Muni’s West Portal and Forest Hill stations will be closed overnight so Muni can do maintenance in the Twin Peaks Tunnel. Shuttle buses will operate on the K, L, & M lines.
