SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS Radio) - It's Bay to Breakers weekend in San Francisco with the reliably wacky foot race coming up on Sunday, KCBS Radio's Jenna Lane reports thousands of people are getting ready for the annual tradition.

There are the elite runners, the sort of serious runners..."I haven't been running as much as I should be. So if I keep it under an hour and 15 minutes I'll be happy."

There are walkers... "I just plan to go to the starting point and walk out to the beach. It's my annual check to make sure I can still walk."

And there are those who can't promise they'll finish but will be dressed up.

More than 40,000 people have signed up for the 106th Bay To Breakers bisecting the city on Sunday.

The SFMTA's Paul Rose advises they "will have extra service on the train lines including N Judah and additional service getting folks back home." For people who don't have any stake in the race but do want to get around San Francisco, they are encouraging them to stay away from the routes because it will be congested.

BART will also be upping service, opening early and using longer trains.
