Firefighters are battling a number of fires up and down the state of California.

The increase in wildfires is a sign that autumn is coming. The worst part of the fire season typically takes place in fall.

The biggest fire is the Walker Fire in Plumas County that has burned nearly 60 square miles and was just 5% contained on Monday, according to Cal Fire

The Red Bank fire burning near Red Bluff has burned 14 square miles and was 505 contained on Monday morning.

The 400-acre Swedes Fire burning near Oroville is 40% contained, authorities said.

the 15.5 square mile Taboose Fire, in Inyo County, is 10% contained.

"The majority of these fires right now that are happening all over the state right now have had evacuations," said Cal Fire Deputy Chief Scott McClean. "We ask that you have your go-kit ready to to go and make sure that you identify where are the other items that you can quickly grab."

McLean encouraged drivers to maintain a full tank of gas in their cars.
