While the rain predicted for this weekend may affect turnout at some outdoor events, such as Redwood City’s Hometown Holidays at Courthouse Square and “SantaCon 2019” in San Francisco, other events should barely be impacted. The Raiders will take on the Tennessee Titans at the Coliseum on Sunday, and the Not So Silent Night concert at the SAP Center on Saturday Night is always a big draw. It’s unlikely that a little water will discourage any of the participants in the Holiday Lighted Boat Parade in Petaluma on Saturday night either, seeing as they’re already out there on the Petaluma River.

SOUTH BAY:

Sat, Dec 7 at 6pm: The ALT 105.3 Presents Not So Silent Night 2019 will be in San Jose at the SAP Center.. This year's lineup includes Mumford and Sons; twenty one pilots; The Raconteurs; The 1975; Of Monsters and Men; and White Reaper.

  • Pro tip: The last Saturday night Caltrain leaves Diridon Station at 10:30pm, but the area is also served by VTA light rail (Diridon and San Fernando stations) and by several VTA bus lines. If on-site parking fills up early, there are many parking garages in the area, and of course ride-sharing is also an option (See this page for pickup/dropoff points and other transit/parking options).
  • Areas and roadways affected: Before the concert, there will be congestion all around the SAP Center/Diridon Station neighborhood. And for the 20-30 minutes after the show lets out, two street closures will be in place: Santa Clara Street from Autumn to Cahill Streets; and Autumn Street from Santa Clara to St. John Street.

EAST BAY:

Sun, Dec 8 at 1:25pm: At the Oakland Coliseum, the Raiders play the Tennessee Titans.

  • Pro tip: Taking BART to the Coliseum Station is the preferred way to get there, although taxis and ridesharing would also be easier than driving. If driving is your choice, it pays to shop for parking options ahead of time or have a trusted parking app.
  • Areas and roadways affected:  Expect extra traffic on Coliseum Way, Hegenberger Road, San Leandro Street, and the ramps getting to and from I-880 in the Coliseum area.

PENINSULA:

Sat, Dec 7 from 10am-8pm: Redwood City’s Courthouse Square has its annual ‘Hometown Holidays’ Parade and Festival, an admission-free, rain-or-shine event. There will be snow, music, art and craft booths, photos with Santa, a parade down Broadway, tree lighting and the arrival of the Caltrain holiday train at 6:10pm. Plus, there's live holiday music till 8pm.

  • Pro tip: From CalTrain’s Redwood City station, it’s a 5-minute walk to Courthouse Square; or you can hop on one of the SamTrans bus lines serving the area (296, 390, 391, KX). A downtown parking guide is here.
  • Areas & roadways affected:  There may be extra traffic on El Camino Real in downtown Redwood City and on the streets in the Courthouse Square area.

SAN FRANCISCO:

Sat, Dec 7 at noon: San Francisco’s Union Square: SantaCon 2019 takes place. It’s an unscripted event in which hundreds of people dressed as Santa show up, many of them bearing toys to donate. The Santas celebrate, take pictures, then go on various pub crawls. \

  • Areas & roadways affected: In the Union Square, Downtown and North Beach areas, drivers should watch out for many pedestrian Santas, not all of them guaranteed to be entirely sober.

NORTH BAY/SOLANO:

Sat, Dec 7 from 5:30pm-6:30pm: Downtown Petaluma: The Holiday Lighted Boat Parade will take place on the Petaluma River from the Marina to the Turning Basin. After spending their day at the Downtown Merchant’s Holiday Open House from 11am-5pm, many folks are expected to wrap up the day by watching this flotilla of small, decorated, human-powered vessels, such as lighted kayaks, illuminated stand-up paddleboards, electrically lit canoes, and suchlike.
