Get your weekend plans in order with KCBS Radio's things to do guide for the San Francisco Bay Area. A celebration of Tet, or the Vietnamese Lunar New Year Festival, will take place at Eastridge Mall this weekend and next. On Saturday, the Oakland A’s (free!) Fan Fest takes place at Jack London Square. Also on Saturday, the Walk for Life West Coast will shut down traffic on Market Street in Downtown San Francisco. A popular annual dog show returns to the Cow Palace both weekend days. The Lantern Light Show closes out its run at the Solano County Fairgrounds.

If you're wondering about how to get around, it's worth noting there will be delays for some East Bay BART riders on Sunday due to single-tracking trains. And back in San Francisco, Sunday night kicks off a week of early closures of the Muni Metro subway system, with shuttle buses filling in the void.

Fri, Jan 24 (3pm-11pm); Sat, Jan 25 (11am-11pm); Sun, Jan 26 (11am-11pm):

San Jose’s Eastridge Mall hosts the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, or Tet, Festival in the Sears parking lot. The admission-free festival features live entertainment, carnival rides and games, Miss Vietnam California, Lion and Dragon dance, cooking and dance contests, other contests for children and adults.

  • Pro tip: With free parking to this free festival, driving is a perfectly reasonable way to get there (The mall’s about a mile from Hwy-101 via Tully Road).

Sat, Jan 25 from 9am-3pm: Jack London Square in Oakland hosts the Oakland A’s Fan Fest. This free, rain-or-shine event will feature autograph and Q-and-A sessions with players and coaches, photo opportunities, food trucks and other attractions. The Community Zone, located at Broadway and Embarcadero, will have activities for kids, including face painting and photos with Stomper and the Hall of Fame racers. Chevron will host a Science of Baseball Showcase featuring STEM exhibits and demonstrations. Fans can also purchase past giveaway items and A's memorabilia at a sale benefiting the Oakland A's Community Fund.

  • Pro tip: From the 12th Street/City Center BART Station, it’s about a 13-minute walk to Jack London Square, or you can take the 72R bus line. And the ferry from San Francisco will also get you there. Parking at or near the Square can be pricey if you stay for the whole Fan Fest.

Sun, Jan 26, all day: BART riders should expect 20-minute delays when traveling between South Hayward and Union City, due to single-tracking. Also, some trains may be turned back in order to maintain “schedule stability”. This is due to all-day resurfacing work on the trackway.

  • Pro tip: A BART system map for Sunday is here. Before you hop on a train on Sunday, look at the lower-right “leg” of that map and think about whether you need to build in an extra 20 minutes of travel time.

Sat, Jan 25 and Sun, Jan 26 from 8am-5pm: Cow Palace hosts the Golden Gate Kennel Club Dog Show. Organizers boast that this is one of the last remaining “benched” dog shows in the United States A “benched” show is one in which the dogs, instead of just leaving after being judged, remain on their “bench” [really more of a partitioned-off area> so that show attendees have the opportunity to meet and get to know the breed, talk to their handlers.. General admission is $19.

  • Pro tip: On-site parking is $15 and only cash is accepted.

Sat, Jan 25 at 12:30pm: The 16th Annual Walk for Life West Coast takes place with a 12:30 pm rally in the Civic Center, followed by two-mile march along the Embarcadero to the Ferry Building.

Market Street will be closed to traffic between 10th and Steuart streets from 1pm to approximately 6pm. Cross traffic between gaps in marchers will not be allowed. Mission Street between South Van Ness and Steuart Street will be closed to create a transit-only street for Muni service diverted from Market Street.

  • Pro tip: Those traveling to this event should disembark at the Civic Center BART/Muni Station, which is the transit station. Muni will operate a 30/45 SoMa Shuttle Bus in a loop between the Caltrain Station and Mission Street until the march is over. A full Muni re-route map is here (scroll down).
  • Areas and roadways affected:  Motorists should expect significant delays along the Market Street and Mission Street corridors, possibly lasting till around 6pm.

Starting Sun, Jan 26 at 9:30pm and continuing nightly for approximately one week: The Muni Metro subway system will close at 9:30pm for extended maintenance hours. That’s three-and-a-half hours earlier than the normal 1:00am closing time. When the subway closes, shuttle buses will run above ground to connect all stops through the normal end of train service. Regular bus fares will apply on the shuttles buses and valid transfers will be accepted. Muni’s Owl service will remain unchanged; the same goes for morning/daytime service.
