Schools Closed Due To Power Outages

The widespread PG&E power outages have forced officials to close schools and universities in some of the affected parts of the Bay Area. 

UC-Berkeley has canceled classes on Wednesday, but the campus remains open.

Mills College and Merritt College in Oakland have canceled classes for Wednesday and Thursday.

Evergreen Valley College in San Jose cancelled classes starting at 12 p.m. on Thursday until further notice. 

Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park and Solano Community College have canceled classes today, as well.

Many school systems will be closed as a result of the power shutoffs.

Alameda County 

  • California School for the Blind is closed Oct. 10 and 11.
  • California School for the Deaf is closed Oct. 10 and 11. 
  • Castro Valley Unified schools are open, except at Jensen Ranch, Palomares, and Proctor elementary schools and Canyon Middle School, which cancelled classes on Wednesday.
  • New Haven Unified School District is in session on October 9, except James Logan High School, which is closed Wednesday. 
  • San LeandroUnified School District is closed.
  • Skyline High School in Oakland, but the other public schools are open on Wednesday.

Marin County

The following schools were all closed on Oct. 9 and will remain shut until power is restored:

  • A.E. Kent Middle School
  • Anthony G. Bachich School
  • Bolinas School
  • The Cove School
  • Hall Middle School
  • Marin Horizon School
  • Mount Tamalpais School
  • Neil Cummins Elementary School
  • North Bridge Academy
  • Stinson Beach School
  • Tamalpais Valley School
  • Willow Creek Academy

Napa County

  • Napa Valley Unified School District is closed Oct. 9-10.
  • Howell Mountain Elementary School is closed Oct. 9-10.
  • St. Helena Unified School District is closed Oct. 10-11.

Santa Clara County:

  • Alum Rock Union Schools will be shut Oct. 9-10. 

Solano County

  • The Buckingham Charter School in Vacaville was closed on Oct. 9. 

Sonoma County

  • Alexander Valley (closed Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10)
  • Bennett Valley Union School District (closed Wednesday, Oct. 9)
  • Cloverdale Unified School District (closed Wednesday, Oct. 9)
  • Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District (closed Wednesday, Oct. 9)
  • Credo High Charter School (closed Wednesday, Oct. 9)
  • Geyserville Unified School District (closed Wednesday, Oct. 9)
  • Horicon School District (closed Wednesday, Oct. 9)
  • Kashia School District (closed Wednesday, Oct. 9)
  • Kawana Springs Elementary (within Bellevue School District) will be closed on Wednesday. 
  • Kenilworth Junior High in the Petaluma City Schools district will be closed.
  • Mark West Union School District (closed Wednesday with a projected closure on Thursday, Oct. 10 as well)
  • Old Adobe Union School District: Only Sonoma Mountain and Old Adobe charter schools closed for Wednesday, Oct. 9
  • Piner-Olivet Union School District (closed Wednesday)
  • Rincon Valley School District (closed Wednesday; decisions for Thursday and Friday pending)
  • Santa Rosa City Schools closed Maria Carrillo High, Rincon Valley Middle, Santa Rosa Middle, Hidden Valley Elementary, Proctor Terrace Elementary, Santa Rosa Accelerated Charter School, and Lewis Education Center, but other schools are open. 
  • Sonoma Valley Unified School District (closed Wednesday through Friday)
  • Sonoma County Office of Education: Skylane campus, El Colegio preschool, and Transition classes will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 9. 
  • Waugh School District (closed Wednesday with non-student days on Thursday and Friday, with teachers still running conferences)
  • West Side Union School District (closed Wednesday)
  • Windsor Unified School District (closed Wednesday with a projected closure on Thursday, Oct. 10 as well)
  • Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park is canceling classes Wednesday.
