The House Democratic managers are scheduled to begin opening arguments in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump in the Senate on Wednesday.

A team of seven Democrats, led by Rep. Adam Schiff, will have up to 24 hours over three days to argue that Trump should be removed from office. The articles of impeachment listed two charges against Trump — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

The White House defense, led White House counsel Pat Cipollone and Trump's personal lawyer Jay Sekulow, will have an equal amount of time to make their case.

During a series of votes ending early Wednesday morning to establish the framework of the trial, senators voting along party lines declined to call additional witnesses sought by Democrats. That option could be revisited later after the completion of opening arguments.
