The antlers of a buck became entangled in Christmas lights in San Anselmo, prompting pleas from animal care officials to consider wildlife when putting up holiday displays this year.

A Marin Humane Animal Service officer was sent to help free the buck from the lights, but was unable to catch the deer last week.

Marin Humane Animal Services officers unsuccessfully tried freeing this buck's antlers from Christmas lights, the office said Dec. 2, 2019.

"What likely happened is that the lights were draped loosely over a bush or hanging very low and the buck ran through them, getting his antlers tangled up," said Marin Humane Animal Services Director Cindy Machado in a statement.

The deer can still "is still able to graze and run just fine," Marine Humane said in a Facebook post.

Wildlife officials said they believe the buck will shed the antlers sometime soon. They will continue to monitor his status.
