A married couple from Palo Alto is still missing after the husband and wife disappeared Friday from a rental property in Marin County.

Carol Kiparksy, 77, and her husband Ian Irwin, 72, were last seen near their cabin in Inverness. They were expected to check out Saturday morning, but officials said their car, cellphones, wallets, hiking gear and other belongings were left behind.

"This is highly out of character for them and after extensive searching and investigation Sunday afternoon and evening, no clues have been located," the Marin County sheriff's office said in a statement

More than 130 search-and-rescue workers combed a two-square mile area on Monday. The California Highway Patrol flew an aircraft over the area with a thermal image scanner, but did not find the couple.

Temperatures dropped into the low 40s overnight in western part of Marin County near the Point Reyes National Seashore.

Authorities said there is no indication of foul play.
